Job Description

Due to the further progression of our Artificial Intelligence Business Unit, we are looking for an AI Policy Lead to engage with key legislators, regulators and relevant bodies to ensure that BSI influences the direction of AI regulation in key geographies.

The role will initially focus on AI regulation in the UK, Canada and USA, and will work with colleagues to drive the business unit’s long-term growth plans.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with key influencers of AI regulation in government & regulators, trade associations, think tanks, and other organizations engaging with relevant parties shaping the AI policy debate.
  • Influence key stakeholders to ensure that an open high-quality system of conformity assessment is implemented in AI regulation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on AI policy issues.
  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership content, white papers, and policy briefs on AI-related topics to educate stakeholders and influence public discourse.
  • Work with AI Market Analysts to monitor the legislative and regulatory environment relative to AI and technology policy; Supporting client engagement with insights on AI policy.
  • Identify business development opportunities for BSI. Work with the Regulatory Services Strategy and Innovation team to develop and build new opportunities.

Skills & Experience required

  • Demonstrable experience in, and a good understanding of, digital/emerging technology policy and landscapes.
  • Knowledge of policy and regulatory issues related to AI and related digital technologies.
  • A strong understanding of the EU AI Act, AI technologies, and societal impacts.
  • A passion for responsible AI developments and positive societal impacts.
  • Experience working in a global context and navigating complex regulatory environments.
  • Knowledge of AI Regulation in key jurisdictions and how this and broader policy debates impact BSI’s services.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, communicating technical and regulatory matters to non-technical audiences, and providing clear and concise explanations of assurance, certification systems, conformity, and standards related to AI regulation.

The salary for this position can range from $95,000 to $130,900 annually; actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s competencies, level of experience, education, location, divisional budget and internal peer compensation comparisons.
